Frank G Henry, founder of the Henry bloodline, was born in 1872 in Pennsylvania. In 1880's Henry family moved to Marietta, Ohio. In 1889 Frank and his wife Jessie began breeding pit bull terrier dogs. It is very difficult to find pedigrees of their dogs of that time, but I found some. One of oldest Henry dogs, that I found, was Henry's Dolly H. Another one is more famous, Henry's Marietta Queen. Most of these early dogs can be found behind Henry's Madam and Henry's Wild Willy, that were whelped in 1901. Here is their pedigree.
Some dogs in this pedigree are just show type bull terriers of those days, such names as Victor Bendigo, Woodcote Wonder. We can see early dogs of Henry breedings in pedigrees of such famous pit dogs as Wills Diamond Dick, Lightner's Crazy Carrie, Lightner's Crazy Peg, Lightner's Pansy through breedings of W. H. Horton and B. C. Penn.
Many thanks to LC, editor of SDJ for this superior quality ad from early 1900's But it is more important to look at another dog of Henry's foundation. This dog made Frank famous all over US, his name is Henry's Richmond. This dog was imported from England. 8 times winner, and as Frank said "the grand old imported white dog, Richmond, who has produced more winners than any living fighting bred dog in the land". Frank bred his Henry's Fighting Mag to Richmond to produce Henry's Rosemond 1xW. He also got Henry's White Thistle from breeding Richmond to Old Peg. White Thistle was pure white 44 pound bitch, on this photo she is in whelp to Red Toddy. She is the dam of such well known dogs as Henry's Black Cap, Yankee Tim, Henry's Shellbark, Gentleman Jack and many other winners. She was bred and owned by Frank Henry.
Rosemond bitch is known as dam of Henry's Brindle Daisy and Henrietta. Here is what Frank said about Henrietta: "She is rich colored, fine coated mahoghany brindle with white markings, finished and proportioned at every point, with stoutness, gameness and substance that is hard to equal, can win in a [] or in a show ring...weight 55 pounds...Henrietta is out of great brood bitch Rosemond, and in many respects resembles her renowned dam." Here is pedigree of Henrietta.
As
we can see in this pedigree Delihant bred dogs are very
important in Henry Bloodline foundation.
